Health and safety

The centre has provided specialist outdoor education courses to Primary and Secondary school children for over 33 years, and is licensed to do so by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS).

In addition to our work with mainstream groups our specialist skills and experience enable us to provide safe and rewarding activities to persons with learning and physical disabilities, who may be members of any main stream group.  We are particularly proud of our long serving and experienced staff.

  • Child protection policy
In addition to our Outdoor Pursuits Business at Red Ridge, we ran a Registered Childrens home several miles away, until 1996.  Our Child Protection procedures were, of necessity, detailed and robust and remain a very valuable asset in the context of our outdoor pursuits centre.

  • Coach transport
Our coach transport is normally provided by Tanat Valley Coaches, who provide competitive quotes for safe travel between your organisation and Red Ridge, and also to and from off site activities whilst at Red Ridge.  All coaches are fitted with seat belts, and operating procedures agreed between Tanat Valley Coaches and Red Ridge Centre are in place. Tanat Valley Coaches have Passenger Liability Insurance placed with QBE Insurance, with a renewal date of 16th January each year. Red Ridge will obtain a quotation for you and book the coaches on your behalf, if you so wish.  The coach company will contact your organisation a week prior to your visit to confirm all detail.  If you wish to obtain your own quotations locally, and book directly, please feel free to do so.
  • Risk benefit
In accordance with National Guidelines we now work to RISK BENEFIT ASSESSMENTS ensuring that we operate safely but that guests of all ages have an understanding of their responsibilities in keeping themselves safe, not only at Red Ridge, but in life in general.  Let me give you an example: We are walking within close proximity of the Centre, on a relatively warm day and advise the group that waterproofs should be carried.  We would not check that a 10 year old had put a waterproof in their bag, and might allow them the learning experience of the physical discomfort of getting wet, as long as it posed no risk or great discomfort.  However, if we were about to walk in a less friendly environment or in less favourable conditions, in which commonsense dictated that risk outweighed the benefit, or learning experience, then we would ensure that waterproofs were worn. Clearly this is a very difficult concept to put into writing but group leaders, and parents, can be assured that the principle is applied with absolute commonsense, and without undue risk to the client. We brief clients as to our expectations as soon as they arrive in the centre and encourage the taking of responsibility towards themselves, and others, at all times.
